What’s so good about online surveys? They’re fast, replicable, flexible and cost Image may be NSFW.

They’re fast and efficient. If you’re sending emails and have a fast survey tool, then it takes literally minutes to develop a survey. With the right tool and the right survey, it’s also very quick for your audience to respond and share their views. That means instant, pinpoint feedback. A manufacturer recently moved from offline surveys to online and found that the number of recipients increased by 25% and the first results came in within minutes of sending the survey.
They’re flexible. You can reuse an online survey, create a monthly survey, and you can even follow up with respondents (with their permission of course). A lot of marketers find great success building online panels that go back to the same user group to get in-depth, ongoing feedback on new products or services or trends. Think focus group, but lower cost and more flexible. For more about online panels, see Peersuasion Peer Panel.
They’re useful. Event marketers rely on pre-event surveys to determine attendee preference, timing, location and other crucial questions. Similarly surveys may reveal information not normally captured by e-commerce or email signups. We recently did an online promotion that included some demographic questions, and found surprising answers about where the client’s customers lived and shopped.
They have legs. Surveys have a built in buzz factor. You can post a link to your survey on your website or Facebook page, which might result in both survey respondents and signups. You can provide a call to action at the end of the survey. You can use them to segment users and lists. And of course if your survey findings are really interesting, they might provide fodder for trade publications or other resources. You get insight into your customers and some free promotion.
